Peter Cirino has been named CEO of A123 Systems LLC, a Michigan-based supplier of low-voltage lithium-ion batteries for backup power systems.
Cirino, who had been president of the company’s European operations, joined the company 15 months ago. He replaces Jason Forcier, who left the company on Monday.
Forcier led A123 through bankruptcy and its sale to China’s Wanxiang Group in 2013. Since then the company has shifted from batteries for electric vehicles to 12-volt starter batteries and devices for 48-volt micro-hybrid systems.
The relaunched company broke even for the first time two years ago. Forcier told Crain’s Detroit Business last year that the company expects to double this year’s revenue to $1 billion by 2019.
