Electric vehicle battery maker A123 Systems LLC has sued Apple Inc. for luring away five top engineers to help it develop a battery division, Law360.com reports.
The lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Massachusetts claims Apple began last summer to aggressively poach its employees in violation of their employment agreements. It says Apple hired employees who headed five research projects in its System Venture Technologies Div.
The complaint says Apple is developing "a large-scale battery division" that would directly compete with A123.
A123 Systems pioneered lithium-ion technologies for cars but went bankrupt in 2012. The company was acquired and relaunched in 2013 by China's Wanxiang Group Corp.
