Wu Rui, the co-founder of China’s Did Chuxing ride-hailing startup, says it's only a matter of time before the company will work with Apple Inc. on self-driving vehicle technology, The Nikkei reports.
In May Apple announced it is investing $1 billion in Didi, a four-year-old company that competes in China with Uber Technologies Inc. Didi says it controls about 90% of the country’s taxi-hailing and ride-share market.
Wu notes that Didi has aggregated a huge amount of traffic data in China about such things as the route drivers take at different times of the day. Observers believe Apple’s big investment is a precursor to the two companies collaborating on autonomous vehicles.
