Alpine Electronics Inc. has begun selling what it claims is the first wireless aftermarket dashboard receiver for Apple Inc.’s CarPlay technology.

The device allows users of older vehicles to access Apple smartphone features—stored music, audio text messages, real-time traffic information and driving directions—through vehicle displays via wi-fi or Bluetooth connections. The wireless capability has been available as a factory-installed option on new cars for about two years, but previous aftermarket units required a cable connection with the phone.

Alpine unveiled the iLX-107 system, which includes a 7-inch touchscreen with LED backlighting, in January at CES in Las Vegas. The suggested retail price is $900.
