Denso Corp. and the University of Michigan are evaluating results of a recent test involving three electric cars made available to a small test group of students to borrow whenever they wished and for as long as they wanted.

Denso lead engineer Michael Bima says some students took cars on extended trips, carefully plotting out their route and scheduling stops to recharge the vehicle. The test highlighted concerns about EV range and the ability to reserve a car when desired. It also turned up glitches in the cloud-based system that enabled the students to unlock a reserved car with a smartphone app.

Bima says Denso and the U-Mich. are now conducting an extensive analysis of the data to pinpoint issues and indicate solutions.
