Some 17 automotive engineers at Apple Inc. have joined autonomous car startup Zoox Inc., sources tell Bloomberg News.
Many members of the group had hired on at Apple from U.S. carmakers and auto suppliers to help its secret Project Titan develop a self-driving car. But last year Apple cut the program’s staff after deciding to focus solely on control software for autonomous-driving systems.
Bloomberg says Menlo Park, Calif.-based Zoox has gradually acquired the 17 engineers, whose role at Apple had been marginalized. Both companies declined to comment on the report.
