Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo autonomous car unit has hired Satish Jeyachandran, the former head of hardware engineering at Tesla Inc., to help it create the package of cameras and other sensors needed for self-driving vehicles.
Jeyachandran, 38, will lead the Waymo team that develops and integrates the necessary hardware. He was at Tesla for more than six years before quitting earlier this year.
Waymo decided a few years ago to develop its own vision, radar and lidar technology. CEO John Krafcik says the in-house approach is raising quality, lowering cost and shortening time-to-market.
