Volkswagen AG has idled its assembly plant in Kaluga, Russia, again, this time for five days to help reduce inventories of unsold cars as the country's auto market continues to deteriorate.

VW says it plans to reopen the factory next week. The company halted output at Kaluga for 10 days in September.

Group sales by the company dropped 19% to 193,400, according to the Moscow-based Assn. of European Businesses. Other carmakers who have reduced output in Russia in the past few months include AvtoVAZ, Ford, General Motors, Mitsubishi, PSA Peugeot Citroen, the Renault-Nissan alliance and Toyota.
