Volkswagen AG has begun the second wave of recalls in South Korea to fix emission control systems in vehicles equipped with its cheater 2.0-liter diesel engines.
In January the company began upgrading software in 27,000 of its Tiguan SUVs with engines that VW rigged to evade emission laws. The callback that began today targets 81,300 of the company’s diesel-powered Audi A4, A5 and A6 sedans and VW Beetle, CC, Golf, Jetta Passat and Scirocco cars.
A third phase will address 1.6-liter and older 2.0-liter diesels that may require more extensive hardware updates. In other markets, VW has opted to buy back and scrap those cars.
