VW Production Again Slowed by Seat Shortage

Volkswagen AG will reduce shifts at its assembly plant in Emden, Germany, on Thursday because of an unspecified production problem at in-house seat supplier Sitech Sitztechnik GmbH in Wolfsburg, Reuters reports.
The slowdown will affect one-third of the 9,000 workers at Emden who make Passat midsize sedans and wagons. VW hopes to resume full production on Aug. 24.
The disruption is VW’s second in less than four weeks that involves its seat supply chain. In July the company’s SEAT unit suspended output at its factory in Martorell, Spain, for two days because of a strike at supplier Johnson Controls Inc. The walkout interrupted assembly of Audi Q3 small crossovers and SEAT Altea small MPVs, Leon hatchbacks and Ibiza superminis.
