Nigeria's trade and investment minister tells Bloomberg TV that Volkswagen AG intends to set up a car assembly operation in the country in December.
VW did not immediately confirm the claim by Minister Olusegun Aganga, which Bloomberg will air on Oct. 1.
Nigeria is trying to bolster its domestic auto industry, largely by raising tariffs on imported vehicles. Nissan Motor Co. opened a local assembly unit in the country earlier this year. Bloomberg says Hyundai, Tata and Toyota are among other carmakers who have expressed interest in doing the same.
