Volkswagen AG is considering erecting an assembly plant in the central Chinese city of Wuhan with joint venture partner FAW Group Corp., according to the Hubei Daily.
The state-owned newspaper says VW is in intensive talks with the Wuhan municipal government. The proposed opening date, capacity and vehicles to be produced are unknown.
This spring the German carmaker extended its 1991 venture with FAW by 25 years through 2041. The partners operate plants in Changchun, Chengdu and Dalian and are building another in the city of Foshan in Guangdong province.
VW announced in April it would open a €170 million assembly plant in the northwestern city of Urumqi with its other Chinese partner, Shanghai Automobile Industry Corp., in 2015.
