VW Chooses Turkey for E. European Plant

Volkswagen AG’s supervisory board has selected Turkey as the location of a new assembly plant that will open 3-4 years from now.
Last November VW indicated it would need a new factory in the region after 2022 as some of its existing capacity in Germany is retooled to make electric vehicles.
Expected to provide 350,000 units of annual capacity, the new plant also will relieve capacity constraints at the group’s Skoda plant in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic, according to Automotive News.
AN says the facility will make vehicles for the SEAT, Skoda and VW brands, including the SEAT Ateca and Skoda Karoq small crossover vehicles.
