Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co.'s Volvo Car unit plans to idle its main assembly plant in Torslanda, Sweden, for the week beginning Oct. 29 because of sagging vehicle sales in Europe.

The Torslanda factory has been operating at reduced line speed since Oct. 1. Volvo says it has no plans for changes to the facility's permanent workforce.

Demand for Volvo car across Europe tumbled 11% year on year to 151,600 units in the first eight months of 2012, according to automaker group ACEA. Europe accounts for about half the company's sales.
