Germany’s car market will expand 4% to 3.17 million sales this year in spite of the bad publicity about Volkswagen AG’s diesel engine emissions scandal, the country’s VDA trade group predicts.
VDA previously forecast this year’s sales would expand 2% to 3.1 million units.
The group also says it has detected no slump in demand for diesels. It points out that sales of such cars in Germany expanded faster in August-November than the market overall.
But the association cautions that headwinds caused by terrorism and political tensions in the Middle East could limit next year’s sales growth to 3.2 million units in Germany.
