U.S. prosecutors have issued international arrest warrants through Interpol for five former Volkswagen AG employees indicted for their role in the carmaker’s diesel emission cheating scandal, Germany’s Sueddeutsche Zeitung reports.
The unnamed managers are accused of violation of the U.S. environmental laws and criminal conspiracy to commit fraud. A sixth VW executive—Oliver Schmidt, the former head of the company’s emissions and engineering center in Michigan—was arrested in February as he was preparing to return to Germany and is awaiting trial.
Germany isn’t likely to extradite the newly targeted ex-employees. But Reuters says they could be returned to the U.S. if they are apprehended in another country.
