Unifor Strikes GM’s SUV Plant in Ontario
Canadian labor union Unifor struck the CAMI assembly plant operated by General Motors Co. in Ingersoll, Ont., at 11 p.m. last night after failing to reach agreement on a new contract for its 2,800 workers there.

Canadian labor union Unifor struck the CAMI assembly plant operated by General Motors Co. in Ingersoll, Ont., at 11 p.m. last night after failing to reach agreement on a new contract for its 2,800 workers there.
The factory makes GM’s popular Chevrolet Equinox midsize crossover vehicle. Unifor workers at the facility operate on a separate contract from the agreement that applies to GM’s other plants in Canada.
The CAMI facility was opened in 1989 as a joint venture between GM and Suzuki Motor Co. Suzuki exited the partnership at the end of 2009 because its Sidekick XL7 crossover vehicle made there did not sell well.
