Chargie Ltd. is launching a service that will enable homeowners to rent out their electrical ports for recharging the batteries of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Vehicle owners can book time via Chargie’s website. The company will add a smartphone app will be added this summer.

Rental prices are decided by the charge point owner. Chargie adds a 10% service fee for registered EV charge point owners and 20% for those who use the service only to charge.

The company is owned by husband and wife Jeremy Coulter and Jan Stannard. Chargie is Jamaican slang for “close friend.”
