Transport Minister to Meet with Carmakers about India’s Emission Laws
More than 30 vehicle manufacturers in India have been asked to meet on Thursday with Niti Gadkari, India’s minister of road transport and highways about the country’s decision to accelerate emission standards for diesel and gasoline passenger vehicles.

More than 30 vehicle manufacturers in India have been asked to meet on Thursday with Niti Gadkari, India’s minister of road transport and highways about the country’s decision to accelerate emission standards for diesel and gasoline passenger vehicles.
Gadkari has rebuffed industry pleas to delay a jump from the country’s current Bharat Stage IV emission standards to BS VI limits by April 2020—four years earlier than previously scheduled. The latter standards are equivalent to Euro VI limits the carmakers already achieve in other markets.
The Society of Automotive Industry Manufacturers argues the country should move to Euro V limits and then Euro VI levels. But a defiant Gadkari declares, “The government is not reconsidering its decision.”
