Toyota Motor Corp. says it will relaunch vehicle assembly operations on Thursday and parts production on Friday at two plants in Tianjin, China.
The facilities were closed on Aug. 12 by huge chemical explosions near the city's wharf that killed at least 123 people. The blasts injured 67 Toyota workers who lived in the area and destroyed thousands of vehicles awaiting shipment.
Toyota says it will take a few days to assess the condition of its facilities and determine production levels. But the company predicts no significant impact on its sales in China. Toyota sources roughly half the vehicles it sells in China from the Tianjin plant.
