Toyota Motor Corp. has begun shipping a limited number of its Venza midsize crossover vehicle from its assembly plant in Georgetown, Ky., to South Korea.
Toyota says it expects to initially export about 600 Venzas annually. Korea will be the first market outside North America where the model is sold.
The company is increasingly using North America as a base for export manufacturing instead of Japan, where the strong yen makes vehicles costly to sell abroad. The Kentucky factory will export an estimated 130,000 vehicles overseas this year, up 53% from last year's level, including Korea-bound Camry sedans.
