Toyota Motor Corp. says it won't open its idled assembly plant outside Tianjin, China, until at least Aug. 26.
The factory is Toyota's largest in China. It halted operations on Aug. 12 after two huge explosions at a toxic chemical storage facility near Tinajin's wharf. The blasts killed at least 123 people, injured more than 700 others and destroyed thousands of cars awaiting shipment.
The FAW Toyota plant made about 440,000 cars in 2014 representing roughly half of Toyota's annual production in China. The facility assembles a wide range of sedans from the compact Vios to the fullsize Crown.
