Toyota Motor Corp. says it will idle its assembly operations at Tianjin, China, through Saturday as officials continue to decontaminate last week's chemical explosion site near the city's wharf, Reuters reports.
The company suspended production on Monday and originally expected to resume operations on Wednesday. But it says it has been unable to confirm the safety of the area following twin blasts at a warehouse that contained some 700 tons of toxic sodium cyanide.
IHS Automotive tells Reuters the company is losing output of about 2,200 cars per day during the crisis.
Toyota's Sichuan FAS Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. components venture in Changchun also will close through Friday because of delays receiving parts shipped from Japan.
