Toyota Motor Corp. is centralizing a trio of development and production programs in Japan. All three moves are intended to streamline operations.
Toyota says it will turn over its joint diesel engine development and production with Toyota Industries Corp. to the latter company. Toyota says the consolidation will enable it to focus on advanced engine technology while strengthening TICO's diesel expertise.
Toyota also will consolidate its manual transmission operations under the control of Aisin AI Co., a unit of transmission partner Aisin Seiki Co. Ltd. Toyota plans to transfer manual gearbox production at its Kinuura factory to Aisin in 2016.
Finally, Toyota intends to accelerate plans to combine its brake system engineering, production and sales operations under Advics Co. Ltd., a company it launched in 2001 with Aisin Seiki, Denso and Sumitomo Electric Industries.
Beginning in January 2016, the new structure will gradually move production of electronically controlled brake systems from Aisin's Handa plant and Denso Daian factory to a new facility to be built by Advics in Aichi Prefecture.
