Toyota Aids Dealers Hit by New Delhi’s Diesel Ban
Toyota Motor Corp. is helping its Indian dealers in New Delhi by taking back stocks of diesel-powered vehicles temporarily banned by the city.
Toyota Motor Corp. is helping its Indian dealers in New Delhi by taking back stocks of diesel-powered vehicles temporarily banned by the city.
The edict, which is set to expire in April, aims to help improve the city’s dangerously polluted air. The measure prohibits the sale of cars and SUVs equipped with diesel engines that displace more than 2 liters.
Toyota tells Bloomberg News the ruling affects its diesel Innova minivans and Fortuner SUVs—vehicles that normally generate more than half the company’s sales in India. Toyota says it has been selling a combined 1,000-1,500 of the models in the New Delhi area.
The company also tells Bloomberg it will help cover dealership interest costs and staff wages in New Delhi during the diesel ban.
