TomTom International BV and Cisco Systems Inc. say they will work together to develop sophisticated data systems for autonomous and connected vehicles.
TomTom International BV and Cisco Systems Inc. say they will work together to develop sophisticated data systems for autonomous and connected vehicles.
The combined research program will leverage roadside data captured by Cisco sensors, routers and controllers with TomTom’s traffic fusion technology and expertise. Cisco’s Internet of Things platform will be used to support the program.
The partners also will use distributed acoustic sensing technology (DAS), which can convert a fiber optic cable into an array of virtual microphones that detect and measure vehicle movements. The data will be merged with information gathered by the TomTom network of 500 million GPS mapping devices.
The combined data will be analyzed in a TomTom interface designed for traffic management centers. The partners expect the research program will reduce latency, cut costs and increase the accuracy of real-time traffic services.
