Tesla Inc. has settled a lawsuit that claimed Sterling Anderson, the former head of its Autopilot semi-autonomous driving system, stole secrets about the technology, Bloomberg News reports.
Anderson left Tesla last year and helped form Aurora Innovation LLC to develop its own self-driving system. The electric car company’s complaint alleged that Thomas also recruited other Tesla Autopilot engineers.
Aurora says Tesla has withdrawn its claims without damages, fees or finding of wrongdoing. But Tesla says Aurora agreed to pay it $100,000 to settle the lawsuit. It also asserts that Anderson’s contractual obligations to Tesla will remain in place and be extended to Aurora with “specific protections being added to ensure there are no further violations.”
Tesla further states that the settlement creates a process that will enable it to “recover all of the proprietary information that was taken from the company,” according to Bloomberg.
