Tesla Hires Snapchat Engineer to Lead Autopilot Program
Tesla Inc. has hired Stuart Bowers as vice president of engineering to work on the company’s Autopilot semi-autonomous driving technology and other projects.
Tesla Inc. has hired Stuart Bowers as vice president of engineering to work on the company’s Autopilot semi-autonomous driving technology and other projects.
Bowers most recently was vice president of monetization engineering for Snap Inc., which runs the Snapchat social media site. He previously worked for Facebook and Microsoft. Bowers also holds several patents for machine learning related technologies.
Jim Keller, who previously led Tesla’s Autopilot program, left the company last month. At the time, CEO Elon Musk said Keller’s responsibilities would be split between Peter Bannon and other executives.
About 30 high-ranking Tesla executives have the left electric vehicle maker since 2016, Automotive News notes. Among the departures are at least three other Autopilot engineers, including Chris Lattner, David Nister and Sterling Anderson.
