Tesla Motors Inc. has begun wirelessly updating the software in its newest electric cars to improve their Autopilot semi-autonomous driving systems.
Last October the company began installing a second-generation Autopilot system in its Model S sedans and Model X crossovers. The cars are equipped with more advanced Autopilot hardware the company claims will enable fully automated driving.
But Tesla disabled some features already available in the older system until the new version’s software could be vetted for such features as active cruise control, automatic braking and collision warning. This week’s update will install the new software.
