Karl Slym, new managing director of Tata Motors Ltd., tells Bloomberg News he intends to kill unspecified models and add variants of the company's most popular SUVs.
Slym, who joined the Mumbai-based automaker from General Motors Co.'s China unit on Oct. 1, needs to rebuild Tata's sagging sales. He says he also will devote attention to changing consumer perceptions of the quality of Tata vehicles.
Analysts say the company's quality problems go beyond perception. Several key models rank below average on J.D. Power and Associates' annual initial quality study for autos in India. Some of Tata's new SUVs also haven't sparked the interest of Indian consumers, analysts note.
