The government also has eased regulations to encourage the spread of lower-power, slow-charge points. Korea has only 1,600 such facilities currently. New rules will allow buildings with parking spaces and the proper maintenance personnel to install slow chargers.
Korea’s environment ministry forecasts EV sales in the country will reach 16,700 units this year from 9,100 in 2016. But the department says demand for EVs outstripped supplies by 50% in 2016 and is double the available volume this year. But experts say Korea’s lack of charging infrastructure is hurting sales.
