SiriusXM Buys Connected-Car Service Provider

Satellite-based radio service Sirius XM Holdings Inc. has acquired Automatic Labs Inc., a San Francisco-based provider of connected-vehicle services.

Satellite-based radio service Sirius XM Holdings Inc. has acquired Automatic Labs Inc., a San Francisco-based provider of connected-vehicle services. Terms were not disclosed.

Automatic Labs markets electronic adapters that tap into a car’s onboard diagnostic port. The devices provide such services as wireless vehicle tracking, diagnostic alerts, fuel monitoring, trip data and automatic crash detection via a smartphone app.

SiriusXM says the acquisition will bolster its data collection and analytic capabilities. The company delivers programming to nearly 32 million subscribers.
