The vehicle is described as a “kleinbus,” which means small bus in English. The term typically refers to a commercial truck about the size of a Mercedes-Benz Metris or Volkswagen Transporter but also could be used for larger models.
In 2016, Apple reportedly switched the direction of its secretive Project Titan from creating an entire self-driving car to developing control software for such vehicles. The tech giant has been testing automated versions of the Lexus RX450h SUV in California for about two years.
Apple submitted a voluntary report on the program this month to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In January, however, the company indicated it was transferring about one-sixth of the 1,200 member Titan team to other projects.
