SEAT Adding Third SUV/Crossover Vehicle

Volkswagen AG’s SEAT unit in Spain says it will add a midsize SUV to its lineup and produce the vehicle at VW’s assembly plant in Wolfsburg, Germany.
Due in 2018, the unnamed new model will be produced in five- and seven-seat configurations. The vehicle is reflect styling cues borrowed from the 20V20 concept car (pictured) that SEAT presented at last year’s Geneva auto show.
The new model will join SEAT’s current Ateca small crossover and upcoming Arona subcompact crossover. The three models will cover more than 75% of the fast-growing European SUV market.
The new model comes as SEAT posts an operating profit of €143 million ($154 million) for 2016, its first in seven years. Last year the unit lost €7 million.
