Scania Prepares for Electric Bus Tests

Volkswagen AG’s Scania commercial truck unit will begin field testing electric buses later this year in Ostersund, Sweden.
Three Scania Citywide LF electric buses will be put into operation by year-end, and another three will be added in early 2019, according to the truck maker.
To support the program, charging stations will be built at both ends of Ostersund’s 14-km (8-mile) bus line. The buses can be recharged within 10 minutes and will run every 15 minutes, Scania says.
The trials will be conducted in collaboration with local authorities and publically owned energy supplier Jämtkraft. The buses will be operated by Nettbuss, a subsidiary of the Norwegian State Railways NSB.
Scania claims to have the widest range of “green” buses. The new electric models will complement the company’s current lineup of biogas, bioethanol, biodiesel and hybrid-electric buses.
