Volkswagen AG’s Scania commercial truck unit is launching a joint program with Norwegian wholesale giant Asko Vest AS to test fuel cell-powered delivery trucks.
Scania will provide three specially equipped 27-tonne trucks for the program, which will be partially funded by the Norwegian government. The trucks will have a driving range of about 300 miles, running on hydrogen extracted from water using a solar-powered electrolysis process.
Asko is Norway’s largest wholesaler, supplying convenience goods to parent NorgeGruppen’s chain stores and other outlets. It operates a fleet of 600 trucks.
