Samsung SDI Co. says it will spend 400 billion won ($358 million) to erect a factory near Budapest, Hungary, to make batteries for electric vehicles.

The South Korean company expects the facility to begin production in the second half of 2018. The facility will have capacity to make batteries for 50,000 EVs per year.

Samsung already supplies lithium-ion batteries for BMW’s i3 electric city car from a factory in Korea. The company also has opened an EV battery plant in China.
