U.S. truck rental and leasing company Ryder Systems Inc. says it intends to order 125 all-electric delivery vans from Los Angeles-based startup Chanje Energy Inc.
Ryder agreed in August to become Chanje’s exclusive lease and sales partner in the U.S. The latter company’s largest investor is Hong Kong-based FDG Electric Vehicles Ltd., which already sells the electric vans in China under its Changjiang brand.
The Chanje panel van (pictured) can carry as much as 6,000 lbs (2,700 kg) and 580 cu ft (16 cu meters) of cargo. The vehicle has a range of 100 miles (160 km) per charge, making it suitable for urban delivery work.
FDG’s Changjiang brand also markets the electric eCool mini-MPV, the eBoss midsize luxury bus and the eZone large city bus in China. The company currently has annual capacity to make 100,000 electric cars and midsize buses at plants in Hangzhou and Yunnan. FDG also plans a factory in Guian that will be able to make 150,000 EVs per year.
