Ricardo Inc. is opening two laboratories at its three-year-old technical center in Santa Clara, Calif., to support the development of electrified and autonomous vehicles.
The power electronics and “vehicle-build” facilities add such capabilities as hardware- and software-in-the-loop testing through full vehicle development, Ricardo says. The initial focus of the 20,000 sq-ft facility was on piston engines, fuel cells and aftertreatment systems. Other recent projects include driver-assist truck platooning.
Earlier this year Ricardo formed an Automotive Group that combined its various transportation-related businesses. The structure is intended to better address customer demands for all aspects of vehicle engineering, including clean powertrain technologies and autonomous driving systems.
