Tesla Motors Inc. has indicated it intends to pay workers an average $25 per hour at the giant battery factory it is building outside Reno, Nev., the Reno Gazette-Journal reports.
That rate would surpass the starting wages for U.S. carmakers and traditional auto suppliers in the U.S.
Tesla has said the $5 billion plant will begin first-phase production next year and expand annual capacity by 2020 to power about 500,000 electric vehicles. The 10 million-sq-ft facility eventually will employ 6,500 workers, according to the company.
