Subaru currently markets diesel-powered versions of its Forester and Outback crossover vehicles in Australia and Europe. Both models are made in Japan. Their combined global sales totaled only 15,000 units, which represents less than 2% of the company’s annual volume, according to the newspaper
The company considers it too difficult—meaning not cost effective—to develop a next-generation diesel that could satisfy future European emission standards, The Nikkei says.
