KBA, Germany’s federal motor vehicle agency, has discovered software in a diesel-powered Fiat car that shuts down the vehicle’s emission control system two minutes after the end of regulatory testing, according to Bild.
The newspaper says KBA has reported its findings to Italian regulators and the European Commission. The claim triggered a 5% drop in Fiat Chrysler Automobile NV’s share price in early trading today over fears the carmaker could face a partial sales ban on diesel vehicles in Europe.
FCA has made no comment on the Bild report. Last Thursday it cancelled a meeting with Germany’s transport ministry to discuss possible violations, claiming Germany has no jurisdiction over the issue. FCA is cooperating with Italy’s transport ministry, which is conducting its own investigation.
