Renault SA has agreed to begin making Bluecar electric city cars for Bollore, the French car-sharing operator, beginning next summer.
The companies also will launch a new joint venture to win and install electric car-sharing services throughout Europe. Bollore will hold a 70% stake in the company, and Renault will own the remaining 30%.
In addition, Bollore has commissioned Renault to conduct a feasibility study for a smaller three-seat version of the current four-seat Bluecar EV. The model would be used to expand the partners' car-share initiatives but also could be sold to consumers.
All three plans were outlined in a letter of intent signed by Renault and Bollore a year ago.
Bluecars currently are assembled for Bollore in Italy by Pininfarina. Under the new agreement, production of those cars will move to Renault's Dieppe factory in Normandy.
