Renault SA says its headquarters and two technical centers near Paris have been raided by French investigators who are conducting a probe into vehicle emission testing. Media reports say computers were seized.
France’s ministers for the economy and energy and climate emphasize the investigation is not related to Volkswagen AG’s diesel emission test scandal. The two officials add that authorities have found no evidence of illegal devices such as those VW used to evade emission laws.
Renault describes the probe as a follow-up to government tests of 100 vehicles, including 25 Renault models, to compare their real-world emissions with those obtained in laboratory tests. French Energy Minister Segolene Royal tells reporters those tests did show that emissions for some Renault and other brand vehicles exceeded allowable limits.
