Honda Motor Co. says it suspended production at its assembly plant in Sayama, Japan, earlier this week after discovering some of the facility’s computers were infected by ransomware.
The shutdown eliminated about 1,000 units of output before production resumed on Tuesday. Honda says older computers at the facility were infected by WannaCry, a malware that freezes a computer and demands a ransom to unlock data.
The cyber attack follows a similar occurrence last month that affected at least six Renault and Nissan facilities in Europe and India. U.S. investigators say the WannaCry malware appears to have come from North Korea.
