PSA Group is preparing to assemble batteries for its plugin hybrid and all electric cars in Trnava, Slovakia, and Vigo, Spain, Reuters reports.
The news service didn’t indicate output volumes or when production will begin at either location. PSA currently buys EV batteries from South Korea’s LG Chem and China’s CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd.).
PSA industrial director Yann Vincent tells reporters that the company may assemble batteries at other factories as its EV sales volume rises. The carmaker aims to add 15 hybrid or battery-powered models by 2021 and offer electrified powertrain options for all models by 2025.
