Porsche AG says its current family of diesel engines may be the brand’s last as it shifts to gasoline-electric hybrid and all-electric options.
CEO Oliver Blume tells Reuters that Porsche is reviewing the end of diesels in its lineup but isn’t likely to make a decision until the end of the decade. He says the company expects to offer customers all three options for at least another 10 years.
In the meantime, Porsche is investing €1 billion ($1.2 billion) to revamp its giant complex in Stuttgart to build the brand’s first all-electric car, the four-door Mission E sedan, which is due in 2019.
Blume says Audi and Porsche, which generate about 60% of group profit for parent Volkswagen AG, expect to deliver “significant” savings by sharing a new EV platform called PPE.
