Panasonic Launches Catalyst-Coated Diesel Particulate Filter
Panasonic Corp. says its Panasonic Ecology Systems Co. subsidiary will begin producing a new catalyst-coated diesel particulate filter in Suzhou, China, next month.
Panasonic Corp. says its Panasonic Ecology Systems Co. subsidiary will begin producing a new catalyst-coated diesel particulate filter in Suzhou, China, next month. Its first customer for the new filter is an unnamed engine manufacturer in China.
Developed in 2010, Panasonic’s new catalyst uses an alkali metal-based compound in place of platinum. The new system lowers costs and can decompose particulate matter at a lower temperature than typical catalysts, the company says.
Diesel filters remove particulate matter contained in diesel engine exhaust gas. The catalyst purifies processed soot to help regenerate the filter.
Panasonic Ecology Systems, which specializes in ventilation fans and air purifiers for buildings, is targeting diesel-powered trucks and off-road agricultural and construction vehicles with the new filter. It’s targeting sales of 10 billion yen ($80 million) per year by 2019.
