PSA Group’s Opel unit says it will introduce all-electric variants of three models by 2020, starting next year with the Corsa subcompact hatchback.
The Corsa EV, which was reported earlier this year, will be followed by electric versions of the Mokka X crossover vehicle and Vivaro van in 2020. Opel is phasing out its first EV, the slow-selling Ampera-e, which is based on the Chevrolet Bolt.
The carmaker also plans to add a plug-in hybrid option to its Grandland X small crossover. The hybrid system is expected to generate a combined 300 hp.
PSA, which acquired Opel/Vauxhall from General Motors Co. last year, plans to introduce 15 plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicles by 2021 and offer electrified variants of all its models by 2025. In addition to Opel/Vauxhall, the initiative includes the carmaker’s DS, Citroen and Peugeot brands.
DS unveiled an electric version of its new 3 Crossback, which shares a platform with the Mokka X, at the Paris auto show in October. The DS EV has a 50-kWh lithium-ion battery that provides a 186-mile driving range.
