Nissan to Build Electric Van in Spain
Nissan Motor Co. says it will spend €100 million to prepare its assembly plant in Barcelona, Spain, to begin making the e-NV200 electric compact van in the fiscal year that begins April 1, 2013.

Nissan Motor Co. says it will spend €100 million to prepare its assembly plant in Barcelona, Spain, to begin making the e-NV200 electric compact van in the fiscal year that begins April 1, 2013.
The factory, which already builds the diesel-powered NV200 van, will produce the EV for global markets. The van will use lithium-ion batteries made at Nissan's factory in the U.K.
The company, which expects to begin selling the e-NV200 in global markets in 2014, is currently testing prototype versions in Europe. Nissan predicts the electric van's range and performance will be similar to those of its first EV, the Leaf hatchback, which can travel 175 kilometers on a full change and reach a top speed above 145 kilometers per hour.
The gasoline-powered NV200 will become the exclusive vehicle of the New York City taxi fleeting next year. The electric version of the taxi will be available there by 2017.
